Garam Masala is a warming spice blend widely used in Indian cooking to bring warmth and depth to dishes. There is no single recipe for Garam Masala - it varies from region to region, family to family and brand to brand, but it will generally consist of a variety of spices such as cinnamon, clove, cumin and black pepper. It is used in addition to other common Indian spices, but we love to get creative with our Garam Masala and use it to amp up the flavors in a variety of recipes. 

Our Organic Garam Masala is a generations-old family recipe, consisting of nine spices that make our blend earthy, warm, complex and absolutely delicious. Our fresh, single-origin organic spices are small-batch roasted, ground and blended so that each jar is fresh, flavorful and potent.

How To Use

The spices in our Garam Masala are dry-roasted before grinding to release their aromatics and give our masala its complex, layered deliciousness. Because the spices are already roasted and ground, Garam Masala should be treated as a finishing spice and used towards the end of cooking to round out the flavors of a dish. 


Try Garam Masala in and on almost anything! It can be used in many preparations from veggies to beans to meats. It's also amazing in cakes and cookies for an amped-up note of spice. Pair it with a source of fat and a source of acid for the most well-rounded flavor.

Masala Tasting Notes

Appearance

Warm brown fine grit powder with light gold flecks of bright coriander and green cardamom.

Aroma

Sweet, earthy, warm.

Texture

Medium fineness with a slight grit. Our masalas are minimally processed and lightly sifted for the freshest, most robust flavor, so you will see some very small, yet different sized particles throughout our blends. We use all of our spices whole and entirely, as we find that each part of the spice adds a different layer, flavor and texture to our blend. The different particle sizes release their aromatics at various times throughout the cooking process, giving you a beautiful, complex layered flavor that a finely ground and homogenized powder wouldn't. 

Taste

Complex with layered flavors. Our Garam Masala starts off sweet on the tongue, is followed by warm notes and ends with a bit of smoky spiciness. Coriander lends a floral undertone throughout and balances the overall blend for a soft, lingering flavor.
